Sony Ericsson Z600 Review

Sony Ericsson Z600

Although not exactly a direct descendent of the Z200—it probably has more in common with the T610 or T630—the Z600 is the second edition Sony Ericsson flip phone, which boasts all the features that the Z200 is missing. If you are looking for a Sony Ericsson flip phone but are put off by the shaky reliability and lack of features of the Z200, then the Z600 may be for you.

In fact, the Z600 has a surprising wealth of features for a phone released in 2003. An integrated camera tops up the list of perks, although with 2 MB of memory you may find yourself hard pressed to find a place to keep all of your pictures.

Memory management and frequent uploads to a computer are one way to ease the memory burden. The low-pixel camera on the bottom of the phone's flip (when viewed externally) takes rather low quality pictures, although not for the camera/phone industry standard of the time. The murky shots are usually not worth saving, and in my opinion the camera is not a selling point.

With 65,536 colors on the Z600's display, and a high quality user interface with an easily maneuverable menu, the Z600 is fun and playful to use. The addition of TFT technology—makes images bright and clear even in direct sunlight—the Z600 has one large leg up on the T610, and all the other Sony Ericsson models that came before it.

Polyphonic ringtones, alternate covers, Java games, and other features make this a highly customizable and individual mobile. While this may not make up for the lack of an MP3 player, an FM radio, or a decent memory level, it does make it a desirable "accessory phone", for those who want a device that is sufficiently flexible to adjust with their moods.

Although this phone is no longer top of the line, it is highly features laden, and was at one point the best on the market in its price range. Sony Ericsson has since topped this phone, with both functional and high quality integrated digital cameras, and with MP3 players, FM radios, and 3D Java games, the Z600 is still a great phone—highly user friendly and with just enough features to put it above the entry-level class.
