Sony Ericsson Z200 Review

Sony Ericsson Z600

As Sony Ericsson's first attempt at a flip phone, the Z200 is a highly attractive, accessory friendly phone that is light on features, but heavy on style.

First off is the external display, which can be set to an "analog" style reading, producing a simply designed, low pixel, 12 hour clock, that is placed slightly off center on the outside of the phone.

The external cover can be removed and replaced with a variety of covers, all in bright vibrant colors. The focus of this mobile is clearly individuality, youth, and fun, as the alternate covers are perfect for the shopper looking for a phone that can go with any outfit.

It's a little bit bulky at 98 g. and 25 mm. of width, but when it's opened up, the 128 X 128 pixel screen displays 4096 colors and a highly functional menu.

No camera or MP3 player on this one, making the Z200 somewhat of an entry-level phone, even considering that it has considerable style.

Some technologies that the Z200 is lacking include TFT (which keeps the colors from washing out in direct sunlight), Bluetooth, E-mail, Java for gameplay and other file transfer interfaces, and. While these may not have seemed like terrible things to be missing when the phone came out, now it is hard to imagine using a phone without them.

Of course, with a very low memory, gameplay and file housing are probably bad ideas anyway, so this phone should only really be considered for someone who wants a highly customizable, entry-level phone.

Although not exactly a direct descendent of the Z200, the Z600 is a Sony Ericsson flip phone with all the features that the Z200 is missing. If you are looking for a Sony Ericsson flip phone but are put off by the shaky reliability and lack of features of the Z200, then the Z600 may be for you.

All in all, the polyphonic ringtones, alternate color covers and displays, and the unique off-kilter external status display, this phone is perfect for the style-conscious phone buyer who is uninterested in modern features.
