Sony Ericsson T630 Review

When Sony Ericsson set out to make and upgrade for their wildly successful T610 model, they weren't content to rest on their laurels. The T610, which featured a fully integrated camera, a sleek look, and a new high color, user-friendly interface, could easily have been redistributed with a new name and alternate covers, but instead the T630 represents a furthering of the technology advancement and integration in the midlevel T600 series.

The first thing T610 owners will notice when they pick up the T630 is the new feel. With a plastic coating on the hand held area, as opposed to the T610's plastic/aluminum combination, the T630 feels both sturdier and more comfortable in your grip.

Although the T630 comes in two new colors, it is safe to say that Sony Ericsson has made internal changes as well. With 4 more hours of talktime on the T630, and 15 more hours of standbytime, you don't have to worry about plugging your phone in every night. The inclusion of 24 polyphonic ringtones, plus the Sony Ericsson MusicDJ program that allows you to create your own individual sounds, are an added plus with this phone.

With 65,536 colors on its display screen, the 630 is has no change over the 610, but with the addition of TFT technology—vibrant colors even in direct sunlight—the colors seem brighter than they did on the old model, and the old habit of colors washing out when you take the phone outside is gone forever.

The menu will appear familiar to T610 users, and the 128 X 160 pixel display screen is the same as well. The camera integrated into the phone is still of a fairly low quality, and images come out somewhat murky is the light source is not strong, but that may just be in comparison with modern technological advances with digital camera/mobile phone hybrids.

A new set of games, including V Rally 2, round out the improvements made to this model. Although the T630 does not represent a vast departure from the T610, almost every aspect of the phone seems slightly improved, from the feel of the plastic to the response time of the software.
