Sony Ericsson P901i Review

Sony Ericsson Z600

The Sony Ericsson P910i is the latest addition to the P-family of PDA/phones put out by Sony Ericsson. Its closest companion is the P900, and most of the changes between that model and this are of the improvement rather than the total change category.

For example, the P900’s 65,536 color display has here been updated to 262,000 colors, adding vibrancy to the already bright TFT powered, 208 X 320 pixel screen. Pictures now appear clearer, and video playback also gets a boost.

The memory has, thankfully, been updated to 64 MB, contrasting sharply with the P900’s 16 MB. This increase in memory allows you to store more data on your phone, and with an MP3 player, JavaÔ game capability, a digital camera with video, and a host of other features, the added space can come in awful handy.

The interface is the standard for the P-series, with a removable flip attachment that has standard phone buttons on the front—the P910i has predictive text, making these buttons highly useful—and a built in stylus that uses the display’s touchpad to navigate the PDA functions of the phone. Added to this model is a full QWERTY keyboard (under the flip attachment) that can be extremely handy when entering text.

BluetoothÔ, SMS, E-mail, and a slew of other data transfer methods come with the P910i, making this virtually the only device you will need in the near future in terms of data sharing, organization, and, at the risk of sentimentalizing things, sheer joy.

To say that the P910i is just a great phone, or just a great camera, or just a great PDA, is to do an injustice to all the other features. And in the Sony Ericsson tradition, all these different aspects of the P910i are integrated so seamlessly, so effortlessly, that the often one-click navigation between the different aspects seems completely natural, as if the camera was a single, streamlined organism, rather than a cobbled together freak from Dr. Moreau’s island.

All in all, the P910i is the most inclusive and integrated PDA/phone currently on the market, and a good buy for businesspeople interested in combining work related organization functions with a media powerhouse featuring games, music, video, and pictures.
