Samsung E330 Review

Samsung E530

When Samsung released the E330, they were attempting to prolong the life of the popular E300, without bothering to make significant updates or changes. Suffice it to say, if you are interested in the features and package of the E330, then the E300 will be able to offer you more or less the same price, with just a few differences.

The changes made to the E330 that aren’t purely stylistic are: 1) this model includes limited voice recording, which can be used as your ringtone, and 2) there is an integrated hands-free apparatus, which was not there on previous models.

Other than that, the features have remained the same. The digital camera is a basic .3 Megapixels, which is more or less the bottom of the recent industry standard. Pictures taken are sometimes clear, sometimes murky, but usually not worth more than the novelty aspect of sending a friend a photo through the phone. In other words, I found the quality of the pictures to not merit saving on my PC’s hard drive, and if you are looking to take digital pictures, then a devoted device is still a necessity here.

There is a limited video function, but like most digital camera/phone hybrids, the quality of the picture resolution goes way down for video. Again, although this represents a breakthrough from what we were seeing in 2001-2002, quality has improved greatly since then, placing this feature, with the E330’s picture taking ability, squarely in the novelty department.

40-tone polyphonic ringtones and 4 embedded games make this phone fun to play with, and the new voice-recording feature allows you to use your or your friend’s voices to make ringtones.

As for connectivity, the E330 has infrared, but not BluetoothÔ. Text and files can be sent over E-mail, SMS, MMS, and EMS, which is nice for transferring pictures of your activities, along with text, to your friends and families.

The E330 is not a perfect phone, as the features are all relatively low quality, and cannot be used as more than novelty items. But if you are looking for an entry level phone with entry level features, then this could be right for you.
