Samsung D410 Review

Samsung E530

Just as Motorola has long dominated the market for flip phones, Samsung has concentrated their efforts on producing and selling a high quantity of sliding phones. The D410 is an example of a cutting-edge sliding phone that is now slightly obsolete.

Just as you might expect from a sliding phone, the hidden keypad makes room for a relatively large screen. In this case the display features 262K colors, with 137 X 220 pixel resolution. The screen has very good quality; in fact, when it was released it was near the head of its class.

The rotational (180 degree) digital camera mounted on the top of the phone takes decent pictures, but cannot compare to more modern camera/phone hybrids. The D410’s camera has a maximum resolution of 640 X 480 pixels, making it hard to compete with more modern phone. It also has an 8X digital zoom, and although the pictures are not always crystal clear, they aren’t that bad either, and they look stunning on the D410’s large and colorful display.

Several smart buttons and a directional keypad allow you to manipulate the phone’s menu while it remains closed. Once the keypad is revealed (the phone automatically slides open and shut when you start the operation manually) is well spaced out enough to be easy to use.

Predictive text allows you to type text quickly, which you can then send via SMS, MMS, or E-mail. The phone also contains infrared connectivity, which is somewhat obsolete now that BluetoothÔ connectivity is a common feature.

The 64-voice polyphonic ringtones have a crisp clear sound, but it is hard to find polyphonic ringtones above 40-voice, so the embedded ringtones may be the only ones to take full advantage of this feature. Again, the D410 cannot be fully recommended because current technology has MP3 player integrated into many phones, or at least being used to play ringtones, so, in yet another way, the device is somewhat obsolete.

I have also seen many user complaints regarding the functionality of the features and although my test model did not prove as buggy as other peoples’ the D410 may prove unreliable in the long run.

All in all, the D410 was a good phone that has stood by and watched while time and technology passed it by.
