Panasonic X70 Review

Samsung E530

The Panasonic X70 is a somewhat limited update on its predecessor, the GD87. Time has not looked fondly on this little flip, and its popularity has dipped greatly since technologies have advanced beyond the stages that this phone represents.

That said, however, the X70 does have a few things going for it, which is where I will begin this review. First of all, Panasonic has added BluetoothÔ connectivity, in addition to voice dialing. Now you can synch up to a BluetoothÔ headset or other device and travel hands free. Perfect for driving in a car, this mobile will respond to what you tell it to do, and you will never have to take your eyes off the road.

With an incredibly low-resolution digital camera, it is almost as if the feature did not exist. Cell phones today have 1.3 and even 2-Megapixel digital cameras, while devoted devices have as many as 10. This digital camera barely even registers, and there is no video function.

The phone has all the standard texting and file sending functions, and maintains infrared connectivity. WAP 2.0 allows you to browse the web in a stripped down form, and generally the phone is good for entry-level connectivity.

Without an MP3 player or an FM radio, the only sounds to discuss are the simple 16-chord polyphonic ringtones. These are basic, and should not attract many people. In the end, this feature, like so many others on the phone, should not play a large part in the purchase of this phone.

The X70 is an ideal phone for making calls, receiving calls and texting. It might be a good starter phone—but not for mobile-savvy teens, who may find that lack of features incredibly frustrating.

The flip form opens to reveal an ergonomically sound keyboard with a raised, individual alphanumeric and 4-way directional keypad that is extremely easy to use, making for fast text and number typing, and predictive text helps you speed up the process even further.

Generally, however, this is not the phone for someone looking for a device integrated with fancy or modern features. As a basic, entry-level phone, it is perfect for someone who does not have high expectations of what a mobile phone should and could do.
