Nokia 9500 Review

Nokia 9500

The Nokia 9500 is a large, versatile, feature-packed phone. There’s no denying that this particular model is mainly designed to suit the needs of people looking for a PDA replacement as well as a mobile phone. Weighing in at a hefty 222 grams, and running 14.8 cm long, this is not meant to be a barely-there communication tool, but rather a portal to the office. That said, Nokia has employed their unique design talents to keep this would-be brute to a slim 2.4cm depth, which means it can still fit in most jacket pockets or slip easily into a briefcase.

A hinge runs along the length of the phone, allowing it to fold open and reveal an extra large inner display. One feature that makes this phone unique is that this hidden display supports a desktop environment similar to that utilized by today’s most popular operating systems. Opposite the large display is a full QWERTY keyboard, which makes it easier to type documents on the go.

Nokia has seen to it that the included office applications are compatible with Microsoft Office. While users can’t actually create Office documents with the Nokia 9500’s applications, the documents they produce are importable by Office, and Office documents are viewable on the phone.

The ability to use the phone to create not just word processing, but also presentation and spreadsheet documents make the Nokia 9500 a particularly powerful tool for getting things done outside the office. The integrated speakerphone goes one step further towards making this mobile phone a mobile office, as well. Not included—but compatible—is Nokia’s wireless keyboard, which makes producing professional-quality documents that much smoother.

Internet access has been a primary concern in the design of this phone, and the Opera browser is designed to render page information in the order you need to see it—saving you time. Connectivity is a breeze with Bluetooth and USB 2.0 compatibility, and the Nokia 9500 can connect to Wi-Fi or phone modem networks.

The business-like Nokia 9500 has made a couple concessions to fun with its support of MP3, MPEG, and other popular formats—and the integrated digital camera can be used for business or to simply take some fun pictures. Overall, this mobile phone is an efficient office tool that hasn’t skimped on multi-media offerings.
