Nokia 8310 Review

Nokia 9500

Nokia has gone back to basics somewhat with 8310, capitalizing on their classic “soapbar” design, easy-access menu functions, and general reliability to produce a phone that is easy to pay for as well as master. They’ve included the features any no-nonsense mobile phone consumer would expect—such as a large phonebook and flexible network support—along with a couple extras. They’ve also gone out of their way to make the Nokia 8310 a mobile phone that’s as colorful and fashionable as it is reliable and sturdy.

The Nokia 8310 is a lightweight mobile phone that has a longer battery life than many more advanced models. Its simple display can hold up to five lines of text, and its compact, streamlined design allows it to easily fit in most pockets. Nokia has intended this phone to serve mainly as a communication tool, leaving the more entertaining functions to its many newer phone models—such as the N series which features everything from live video streaming to online music access.

But with the 8310, Nokia hasn’t entirely taken fun off the menu. That’s because this phone comes with several pre-installed games, and the FM radio can provide users with up to 20 hours of music. Enhanced graphic text messages are also entertaining, allowing users to punctuate their SMS messages with several different images. The Nokia 8310 is also capable of storing up to 150 messages, so there’s plenty of room to store your friends’ wit and vim.

Improving on classic phones of similar design, Nokia has used its developments in user technology to add a couple nice features not found in similar looking phones. The Nokia 8310 works with infrared applications, and also automatically syncs the clock via WAP network access. While this mobile phone does lack a browser or true Internet access capability, its WAP connectivity does allow users to get current information such as film times and weather data.

While certainly not a flagship model, the Nokia 8310 does offer a colorful, low-cost alternative to the most advanced phones. Those looking for a digital camera, MP3 player, web-browser or GPS will have to look elsewhere. That said, those looking for a high-quality communication tool with a few fun features and a flashy-enough look are likely to find that the Nokia 8310 meets their needs.
