Nokia 6100 Review

Nokia 9500

The Nokia 6100 is Nokia's smallest handset to date and certainly one of the most compact colour display phones on the market at the moment. With the 6100 Nokia has successfully delivered good looks, a slender profile, high usability and a credible set of features.

The phone has an attractive and responsive keypad for its size however the 4096-colour display uses passive display technology and therefore the hues are not as vibrant as other phones on the market. The 6100 is highly viewable even at medium brightness however the display setting doesn't seem to modify the screens brightness but instead change the saturation of colours.

Although the Nokia 6100 lacks a FM receiver, melody composer and support for bluetooth it does have GPRS, MMS and Triband capabilities and supports wireless Java and comes with about 180kb of free memory. The phone has two games already embedded in it however these can be easily deleted to free up memory if required. It also comes with a nifty Java application called World Clock.

The Nokia 6100's polyphonic capabilities are fairly good however the 21 pre-stored ring tones varying in quality. The call quality of the 6100 is good as is the connection quality, reception and volume of the loudspeaker while talking; the battery indicator however is quite erratic.

In summary the Nokia 6100 is an overall good buy, although it breaks no new ground it blends form and functionality perfectly.
