NEC E228 Review

As one of the first break-away hits on the 3G network, the NEC E228 is actually an excellent bargain for what it has to offer. Most people complain that with 125 grams in weight and 129 mm in length, the phone is a brick, and too large for your pocket, but with a wealth of features including 2 digital cameras, the weight and size are to be expected, especially at the low price that this mobile is generally offered at.

The first of the two digital cameras is mounted on the front, and supports live streaming video-to-video calls. The quality is reasonable, and while it does eat away at the limited battery life of the E228, it is still a feature that should and has attracted people to this phone.

NEC has mounted the second digital camera is mounted on the back, and supports higher quality digital pictures, with a .3 megapixel resolution. Many camera/phone hybrids have a much higher resolution, but the camera is functional and shouldn’t disappoint.

The large display screen on this block form mobile has a resolution of 176 X 220 pixels and 65K colors using TFT technology. The images viewed on the screen are bright and vibrant, even when out of doors, and although it is not the top of the line, it is sufficiently pleasant to look at.

With Javaä game capability and 40-tone polyphonic ringtones, the E228 is a fun phone, and with an integrated MP3 player, you can take some of your tunes on the go, although not very many with only 19 MB of internal memory.

Without Bluetoothä, the E228 is missing a crucial connectivity feature, but it does support EMS, SMS, MMS, and E-mail for sending text and files, a WAP 2.0 browser, and infrared connectivity.

All in all, the NEC E228 is not the best phone, but it’s not the worst either. As a low-priced, 3G phone, it should continue to produce a wide range of interest in shoppers around the world. But do not have too high expectations of some of the features, as you might not be getting what you’d have hoped for.
