Motorola V550 Review

Motorola V80

When Motorola introduced their triplet of phones, the V300, V500, and V600, it fast became apparent that the V500, although not the most features laden of the bunch, was the clear winner in terms of quality. The reception and volume were both high and clear, and the software was slightly less buggy.

The V525 added to this somewhat, and the V550 continues the trend of reissuing the V500 with more or less the same features, but a new name.

But there are a couple of differences. The V550 has video recording, which was absent from the V500, and the V550 is exclusively available for the Vodafone Live! network, making this a useful phone for people who are looking to use that service.

The V550 has a very crisp and clean digital camera with 4X zoom and a flash. You will not be taking any professional grade pictures with this camera, but at the same time the results are not bad. Compared with the murky, barely visible pictures that some older models used to take, the V550 is a breath of fresh air.

With 15 seconds of video capturing ability, the V550 adds a limited video function to its picture taking prowess. The video function is not life changing, and should not play a large factor in your decision-making process.

The photos and videos are easily viewed on the 65,536 color display. Fortunately, the display incorporates TFT technology, which allows you to see things clearly and vibrantly, even in direct sunlight.

With Bluetoothä connectivity, the 500 series ups the ante in terms of wireless device usage and data transfer. E-mail, SMS, and MMS are also available to send your friends and business associates a note.

Polyphonic and MP3 ringtones are available for download, and some polyphonic tones are embedded as well. Customizing your phone with new ringtones, wallpapers, screen savers etc. is extremely easy on this Motorola, as it is designed to be customizable.

With a soft and easily manageable keypad and a sleek and curvaceous design, the V550 is a nice phone to look at, and is sturdy to hold as well. If you are in the market for a Vodafone-serviced, mid-level flip, then the V550 may be right for you.
