Motorola V547 Review

Nokia 9500

With another in the popular 500 series of flip form phones, Motorola adds a slightly different display, and not much else. Treading water may be a little bit too blunt, but it is safe to say that Motorola found it a good idea to rest on their laurels when they found a winning phone model.

Not wanting to rock the boat too much, the V547 is almost identical to the V545 (minor aesthetic differences aside), very similar to the V500 (with the addition of limited video recording), and even highly comparable to the V300 (adding only the afore-mentioned video recording and the much requested Bluetoothä connectivity).

Although I will get to the features in just a second, I think that it is important to mention that no matter which phone out of the V300, V500, or even the early models of the V600 series you get, you will be getting more or less the same phone, with the same reception and software problems, and the same platform.

Now let’s get to the features. The V547 has a digital camera with 4x digital zoom and 15 seconds worth of video recording. The camera is mounted on the top of the phone when you view it closed, and includes a flash. The camera is mid level for a camera/phone hybrid. There are both better and worse phones on the market.

As a quad band phone, it can be taken almost anywhere where there is service. Other selling points include the polyphonic and MP3 ringtones, although the phone does not have an integrated MP3 player, so you will need to hang on to your iPod if you buy this phone.

With Javaä games, both internal and downloadable, the V546 offers a fair amount of gameplay. But with only 5 MB of memory you will be happy that there is no MP3 player, as things can get tight when you have too many pictures and games stored internally.

The main point to remember when looking to purchase a Motorola of this level is whether or not video recording or Bluetoothä matter to you. If they don’t, then you can feel free to get any one of the many similar phones that are offered. Go for the best deal, or the best look and color scheme: whether it’s a V300 or a V600, and you can be sure that the phone will be more or less the same.
